Entering Poems

Here are some basic guidelines for recording poems. Feel free to adjust this process as needed: The point is just to get the poems entered with some semblance of organization.

Step 1. Create a new article with the title of the poem

The easiest way is to search for the title of the poem. If the title is not found, you will see the words, "You searched for TITLE" at the top of the page. Click on the red link for the title that you searched on in order to begin editing a new article.

Step 2. Enter catalog information for the poem

At the top of the new article, enter something like this:

  {{catalog
  |title=TITLE
  |source=Email from Tim
  |date=June 23, 2006 (sent)
  }}

If you don't have any date for a poem, it's okay to leave that line out.

Step 3. Enter the poem

Enter the poem text. Be sure to add <poem> before the start of the text, and </poem> at the end in order to preserve line breaks.

Step 4. Categorize and save

Include poem texts in this category by adding this tag at the bottom of the page:

  [[Category:Poetry]]

Alternate Versions

To record an alternate version of a poem, create a "sub-page" by adding a trailing slash to the title, along with some distinguishing characteristic of the alternate version, e.g. Out of the Closet has an alternate version: Out of the Closet/September 2003.

To enter the alternate version of the poem, follow the same steps as above, but when categorizing, mark it as an alternate version:

  [[Category:Poetry (alternate versions)]]
